New look Rose Festival to concentrate on street entertainment programme

THE once-troubled Rose of Tralee Festival is to announce details this week of a revitalised and vibrant event for 2004.

A massive sponsorship deal has been signed with Newbridge Silver Wear who have agreed to act as lead sponsors for the world-famous event.

Although the company has already been involved in festival sponsorship, The Kerryman understands that Newbridge have significantly increased their financial commitment to the event. Twenty-eight roses will vie for the coveted title in August. RTE has also confirmed its live coverage of the selection over two nights on August 23 and 24.

The festival dome will house the selection again this year but its location has not yet been finalised. Ryan Tubridy will front the televised selection for the second year running.

A root-and-branch overhaul of the festival is nearing completion and emphasis on a full street entertainment programme has been restored.

Details of the music line-up and of a street entertainment programme are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Following a turbulent and controversial period earlier this year, the festival of Kerry settled its debts with creditors by offering a one-third payment and restructuring the company by attracting new investors, including the new and current Chief Executive Anthony O?Gara.
